Account Number
This is your Bluewater Power contract account number. For faster service, please quote this number when calling our customer service department.
Adjusted Consumption
This equals the Metered Quantity of electricity used (kilowatt hours of consumption) during your billing period multiplied by the Adjustment Factor. This is the actual number of kilowatt-hours you are billed for.
Adjustment Factor
This accounts for the small amount of power that is lost as heat through transformation when electricity is delivered over power lines. The adjustment factor is approved by the Ontario Energy Board.
Average Daily Use
This equals your total consumption of kilowatt-hours of electricity divided by the number of days in your billing period.
Electricity Charges
Electricity
This is the cost of the electricity supplied to you during the billing period and is the part of the bill that is subject to competition. The electricity charge equals the adjusted consumption times the per kilowatt-hour price of electricity. If you are a low volume residential or designated customer, the first 600 (summer season) / 1,000 (winter season) consumed per month is the Cost of Power TIER 1*. Any electricity consumed above 600/1,000 kilowatt hours per month appears on your bill as Cost of Power TIER 2*. If you are a customer of an electricity retailer the cost of power will be the price per kilowatt hour stated in your electricity contract. Bluewater Power collects the electricity charge and passes this money on to the supplier without a profit.
Delivery
These are the costs of delivering the electricity from generating stations across the province to Bluewater Power and then to your home or business. This includes the costs to build and maintain the transmission and distribution lines, towers and poles, and to operate provincial and local electricity systems. A portion of these charges are fixed and do not change from month to month. The rest are variable and increase or decrease depending on the amount of electricity you use. The components of the delivery charge are the Fixed Monthly Service Charge** payable to Bluewater Power for the costs associated with reading, billing and maintaining customer meters and accounts; the Variable Distribution Charge** payable to Bluewater Power for maintaining the local distribution system; the Transmission Network Charge* payable to Hydro One Networks Inc. for the maintenance of the provincial electricity transmission system; and the Transmission Connection Charge* payable to Hydro One Networks Inc. for connection to the provincial electricity transmission system.
Regulatory Charges
Regulatory charges are the costs of administering the wholesale electricity system and maintaining the reliability of the provincial grid. The components of the regulatory charges are the Wholesale Market Service Rate* payable to the Independent Electricity Market Operator for the operation of the provincial electricity market. If you are a standard service supply (SSS) customer a SSS Administration Charge* is also applicable.
Debt Retirement Charge
Bluewater Power is required by provincial legislation to collect the debt retirement charge from all customers on behalf of the Ontario Electricity Finance Corporation. The purpose of this charge is to pay off the debt of the former Ontario Hydro, now held by the Province of Ontario.
HST
Harmonized Sales Tax of 13% payable to the Government of Canada.
Metered Qty
The quantity of electricity consumed during the billing period, which equals the number of kilowatt hours (kWh) of the present meter reading less the number of kilowatt hours of the previous meter reading.
* Rates set by legislation.
** Ontario Energy Board approved rates.
