Bluewater Power Services Corporation (an affiliate of Bluewater Power Distribution) is a progressive local Services company providing electrical service to over 35,000 customers in the City of Sarnia (a community located along the beautiful shores of Lake Huron) and surrounding area.

This is a permanent, full-time, union position.

Job Duties:

  • Assist the Heavy Equipment Operators in trench excavations for all underground installations (subdivision installations, commercial installations, new residential services, service upgrades and streetlight installations)
  • Act as a “spotter” during trench excavations for the Heavy Equipment Operators
  • Assist with concrete work including forming and finishing
  • Perform all manual labour as required
  • Directly provide support for the utility in areas where excavation is required for capital projects.
  • Complete and submit all required documentation (i.e. work orders and stock sheets) upon completion of each project.
  • Assist in providing support for the staff at Bluewater Power. Developing personal and job related skills that will serve to improve the work environment and employee attitude in areas of health, safety and the environment.
  • Arrange for Utility locates as required
  • Manually excavate work areas for repairs to underground secondary services (installation of splices) and primary cables.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 High School Diploma
  • Must hold a valid DZ drivers license with the ability to obtain and maintain an AZR license
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about the practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the repair, maintenance and construction of related field
  • Must have experience using hand tools, measuring tools and operating equipment
  • Must have experience using power tools
  • Ability to or willingness to learn to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, manuals and blueprints
  • Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to recognize other utilities underground plant
  • Must maintain good knowledge of all Standard Operating Procedures, Electrical Utilities Safety Rules, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Labour Standards Act
  • Must be physically fit, heavy lifting and mobility/flexibility required. Applicant may be required to pass a physical examination.
  • Must be willing to work outside in various weather conditions
  • Experience working around heavy equipment and hydrovac experience will be considered an asset
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal

Hourly rate: $23.15 – $33.31
