Powerline Technician Apprentice
Bluewater Power Distribution Corporation is the founding member of the Bluewater Power Group of Companies, headquartered in Sarnia Ontario. A progressive local distribution company, Bluewater Power distributes power to over 35,000 customers in six Sarnia-Lambton communities. We have an immediate opening for one (1) Apprentice Powerline Technician within the Lines Department. This is a permanent, full-time, union position, reporting to the Operations Supervisor(s).
Job Duties:
- Builds and maintains all aspects of Bluewater Power’s distribution electrical network.
- Build, maintain, troubleshoot and repair lines, poles and other equipment, such as transformers, regulators, insulators, meters and substation facilities.
- Capable of working long hours under difficult conditions to restore power to customers.
- Work with aerial lifts (“bucket trucks”), radial boom derricks, trench diggers, large trucks and trailers.
- Work with high-voltage electrical power, in all kinds of terrain and at heights up to 35 metres.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of the Powerline Technician Program from a recognized post-secondary institution and enrolled in the MEARIE or IHSA Journeyman Powerline Technician Certification Program and is working towards obtaining certification.
- Experience in the electrical field or completion of electrical courses would be an asset.
- Able to obtain and maintain a valid restricted “AZ” Ontario driver’s licence.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that includes heavy lifting, stretching and pulling, climbing, working at heights and working in extreme weather conditions, year round. Applicant may be required to pass a medical examination.
- Availability for regular stand-by duty and emergency call-outs is mandatory once fully qualified.
- Must reside within required residency restrictions within a specified period of time.
- Willingness and ability to understand and abide by all Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Must have an excellent safety record and continually demonstrate safe working habits and mechanical aptitude
- Effective communication skills to successfully interact with customers and peers
- Ability to work effectively and safely in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisor and peers
- Ability to use sound judgment, is flexible and responsible and able to demonstrate focus and attention to detail
- Occasional travel may be required.
Candidate will be required to complete the Powerline Technician apprenticeship, which includes on-the-job training and successful completion of all levels of the MTCU Powerline Technician (434A).
