What is the Distributed Energy Resource Program?

The Distributed Energy Resource Program enables you to produce your own electricity, reducing your reliance on the grid and ensuring greener energy for your home or business. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) provide generation, storage and flexible solutions for all your energy needs.

Types of Distributed Energy Resources Programs

Emergency Back-up Generators

This energy option should only be used when the local grid electricity supply is temporarily unavailable.

Non-Exporting Generators

The non-exporting program is for customers who produce electricity for solely self-consumption purposes at all times; no electricity will be exported back to the utility grid

Stand-Alone Generators

The purpose of this stand-alone generator would be to provide the grid with electricity and to receive compensation in return.

Technical Requirements

Generators above 12 kW – Generative Protective Relay might be required per the Protection Philosophy Requirement Sample.

Your facility must comply with the requirements in the Technical Requirements for Generators Connecting to Bluewater Power’s Distribution System document as outlined in the Ontario Energy Board Distribution System Code Appendix F.

Bluewater Power may need to perform a Connection Impact Assessment at your expense.

Metering Requirements for generator above 12 kW – In order to bill you on a net metering basis and comply with Measurement Canada requirements, it is necessary to replace your meter.

Bluewater Power will install an appropriate interval meter that will register separately the amount of electricity consumed from the amount supplied to the Bluewater Power system at your expense. This meter will be read remotely; you must provide a means of communication, as determined by Bluewater Power, up the meter interface.
